Domain-mapping upgrade vsv Registering a domain through WordPress

  Hi,
  We have been using wordpress free hosting for a number of years (bablifarm.wordpress.com).

  We have also ‘owned’ a domain (babli.org), registered with a local (Indian) company, for some time now. Originally, we were using a ‘web-forwarding’ option offered by our domain registrar (local).

  Recently, we have procured the ‘domain mapping upgrade’ from wordpress – so, now our wordpress free site (bablifarm.wordpress.com) is loading at “www.babli.org” … No problem with that!

  However, IDEALLY we would like to SHIFT our domain registration with the local company, and GET the SAME domain registered with wordpress. (ASSUMING that would NOT require us to go on renewing the ‘domain mapping’!?)

  While setting-up a NEW (free) wordpress site for a friend, I noticed that a domain-name can be procured – and that DOES NOT require a separate ‘domain-mapping’ purchase for the site to load through the registered domain-name…

  But when I tried (before procuring OUR domain-mapping) to ‘shift’ the domain we already own to wordpress, I was ‘told’ that I would then have to procure a domain-mapping upgrade, in any case, for our existing wordpress.com site to be displayed through that domain name (EVEN AFTER we shift the domain registration to wordpress!?)

  Did I misunderstand something???

  (I am NOT a ‘programmer’ – I have to DIY all of this, since we are a VERY SMALL ‘rural-developement’ organisation, with NO FUNDS!)

  Just to make the issue clear:
  What we want is this…
  1) Transfer our domain (babli.org – registered with an Indian company) to be registered with WordPress
  2) Pay WordPress for the domain hosting (shift of registration) – but NOT have to pay EXTRA for a domain-mapping
  3) Be able to ‘display’ our free wordpress site (bablifarm.wordpress.com) through the registered domain (babli.org – AFTER shifting the registration to WordPress)

  My question is – is the above possible?
  (As per my logic, it SHOULD be – since if I start a new wordpress-free hosting and procured a domain through wordpress, apparently, I will NOT have to pay EXTRA for a ‘domain-mapping’, in order to ‘display’ the free site through the registered domain).

  Thanks for getting in touch. While we register new domains here at WordPress.com, we’re not able to accept incoming transfers of existing domain names. Therefore, we recommend that you keep the name registered at your current registrar. You can use the domain for your site here at WordPress.com by mapping the domain, as explained here:
