Domain mapping using IP addresses and not nameservers
-
Hi – I am trying to map my domain name to my wordpress blog. But if I change the nameservers then I would lose the email address also hosted by the domain name host. So they, and the WordPress help topics, say to use the IP addresses instead.
I have done this – putting 2 of the 3 supplied IP addresses into the DNS for the www. and @ for the domain host.
But mapping at WordPress is not available. WordPress cannot detect that the address is pointing at them. So does not offer me any way of paying for the mapping.
Does anyon know what is happening and how I sort it out? Many thanks.

Yes thanks for that. I have done but they say I need to use nameservers – even though their help page suggests using the IP address if the domain registrar wants that. I am trying to identify the IP address for the hosting server.
But support have not replied now in 24 hours.
And tonight I go public with the address which does not work. Not impressed with WordPress at all. I was convinced by colleagues that it was much better these days…

If its any help I transferred to the new nameservers and then edited the account on WordPress pointed the MX records back to my email provider.
