Domain mapping vs transfer

    My friend says she has her domain with namecheap.com and uses wordpress.com to host and build her page. She pays $5 a month. It sounds like she did a transfer, as she pays you separately from namecheap.com. On your site, it seems like there is an additional cost of $13/year if I go the transfer route, and I am confused about the pricing involved. Can you break down what the $13/year is? Also, is this in addition to paying for the personal plan?

    for me sounds like she has her domain on Namecheap and she’s mapping that domain to WordPress.com.

    The cost of $13/year is the amount you need to pay for domain renewal after a year if you transfer your domain to WordPress.com.

    With the monthly fees of $5 she’s likely paying for the personal plan from WordPress.com, this personal plan isn’t $5 it’s 4$ monthly.
