Domain Mapping vs transfer to wordpress
-
Hi there, I am having trouble deciding between domain mapping or a transfer to wordpress. I have already purchased my domain from GoDaddy. Any ideas on what would work best or be the most cost effective?

Hey michelecartwright,
If you have already bought your domain, you should go with domain mapping. You can always transfer your domain when the renew date is nearby.
Here is the complete guide for domain mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ -
Hi there,
This is completely up to you. If you’d prefer to keep your domain and site at different providers, then map.
If you’d prefer to manage both at the same place, transfer. Note that to do either you have to buy a paid WordPress.com plan, and each plan includes one free domain transfer or domain registration, with unlimited mappings. However, if you transfer the domain you also get an additional renewal of the domain the moment the transfer completes.
If you’ve only recently bought the domain at GoDaddy, note that it’s not possible to transfer any new domain for 60 days after purchase.
When answering a question like this, rather provide someone with the pros and cons of each decision and allow them to make up their own mind. We don’t know what will work best for the OP, so we cannot tell them what the “should” do.
