Domain Mapping Warning?
-
Hello guys,
I hope all is well.
I’m sure this has been asked before but, there’s a message that comes up when I go to my site.
This is what it says: “Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.”
Does this mean that my domain expired? If so, then I never received a notification email about renewing it.
And if this is so, how can I get it back, if possible? I never saw an option to renew when I go to my account.
Thank you so much for your time guys, hope to hear from you soon.
Kind Regards,
Colin

Hi there, I’m seeing a cached version of gpgolfreport.com on Google which shows this domain is being hosted somewhere else (and is using the Standalone WP software), but the whois search I just performed indicated that the nameservers are currently pointing to WordPressdotcom.
Does this describe the situation correctly? If so, this is a known issue (now) and Staff are aware of it. Sorry for the inconvenience and please be patient while Staff get back to you.
I also see you posted about this on September 10th here. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/domain-error-for-my-site?replies=1#post-2736469
Thanks for that because that also helps establish a timeline.

Hi Jennifer and timethief. Yes, I believe this is it. I originally had a domain on WP.com but decided to get a standalone server for WP.org and I used the same domain I used for WP.com.
And yes, the servers are pointing to WP.com. The warning tells me to log in to my WP.com account.
No problem, I really appreciate you guys helping me right now. Thanks again.

Our records show that gpgolfreport.com expired on 2017-05-26.
Domain expiration is a lengthy and complicated process that takes about 80 days. During this time, your domain may be put up for auction or sold on back-order.
You can learn more about domain expiration here:
The good news is that we may still be able to recover your domain if it has not yet been deleted or purchased by someone else.
A late renewal fee of $80 will be added to the regular price of renewal. This fee is charged by the domain registry and is not one that we can waive.
The total price will be $106, which is $26 for the regular renewal, plus the $80 late renewal fee. Please reply back if you have submitted the payment so that we can begin the recovery process. If you do not wish to pay the $80 fee, you may let the domain expiration process continue and attempt to register the domain again at the regular price, once it has completely expired. Please note that someone else may purchase the domain first, in which case you will be unable to register it again.
Let me know what you would like to do.

Hi Josh,
Thank you kindly for the response.
I think I will pay the $106 to keep the domain (if not sold) and will let you know when I’m ready.
However, where do I go in my account to make the payment? Also, what happens if the domain is sold, and I register a new domain? Will all of my content of the original domain disappear?
Thank you again for your help Josh.

I am sending you an email to the address associated with your WordPress.com account. Please let me know if you do not receive it.
-
Hi all, I’m not entirely sure I understood. If the domain expires in May 2017 don’t we still have several months to go?
-
Josh, had a few more questions. When does the domain go up for auction? Also, how long does this auction last?
Also, if it doesn’t get sold, how soon can I register the domain again?
Finally, if I do decide to pay the $106, is there a way to gradually pay off that amount instead of paying up front?
Thanks again for your help and your replies guys.
Colin

staff-ozmodiar,
Hate to ask this as I know you guys went through all of the trouble to help get the domain price own but, I’ve done some thinking and want to change the name of my domain.
Once I pay the $26 for gpgolfreport.com, is there a way I can change it? Or would I need to register a totally different domain?
If I need to register a new name, what happens to gpgolfreport.com?
Thanks again for your help,
-
No, you cannot change it. If you have no further use for gpgolfreport.com, you should just ignore it, allow it to expire, and just register the new domain that you want to use.
-
OK, I just decided to pay for gpgolfreport.com. If I decide to register a new domain, I can always do that in the future.
Thank you very much for your help guys.

I see that Domain Mapping wasn’t included in my renewal of the domain. Domain Mapping was included on all of my previous receipts.
I believe that is why my site still isn’t up yet. What should I do staff-ozmodiar? And thank you again.
-
You should be all set now. The domain should be active in your account again.
If you need to set your nameservers to point to a non-WordPress.com webhost, you can use these instructions:
-
Awesome, site should be ready soon. Thanks again, you’ve been a massive help and I really appreciate it.
