domain mapping: what will happen to non-wordpress subdomains?
-
about domain mapping, what if my domain consists of a blog (for the mydomain.com, that i’m
planning to migrate from an existing wordpress.com blog) and a coppermine gallery (for the
mydomain.com/gallery), will that jeopardize anything?excuse me for this newbie question, what will happen, will i be blogging on my wordpress.com blog or on my domain? (‘coz the domain was so that i can do paid blogging. and adv widgets can not be done on my wordpress.com blog)

If you do domain mapping, then your blog will still be hosted here on wordpress.com with all the restrictions. If you are going to have a web host and a domain name, my suggestion would be to do your own install of the software from http://wordpress.org. That way things are wide open for you as far as advertising and such.

What you can do is leave your wordpress.com blog active and put a last post on it directing your visitors to your new URL. You will lose Google and Technorati juice, but it will come back. It seems the higher the volume of visitors you have, the longer it takes. Also set your blog here to not be searched by search engines so that they won’t find duplicates.
