Domain mapping with IP-adress and C-Name.
-
I want to move my already existing domain to my blog on wordpress.com. My host tells me i have to do it with IP-adress and C-Name. Couldn’t find any answers for that problem here. My blogname is hamburgheartbreak.wordpress.com
Thanks,
Marcel

No, you don’t do it that way because our blogs at WP.com do not have static IPs. Here are the proper instructions: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
Next time, please do a forum search before asking a question and you’ll save time. I’ve answered this question three times in the last hour.

Thanks for the answer, raincoaster.
I have seen the instructions and asked my registrar. They told me that i can’t update my domain’s name server to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2….
It doesn’t work with them. Instead i should get the IP and a C-Name.
Do you have any other suggestions ?
Thanks,

Raincoaster, i searched the forum and talked back to my registrar.
Seems there was a misunderstanding.
Maybe it will work now. I have to wait and see.
I will let you know as soon as there is news about.
Thanks a lot for your help !

It definitely needs to be done via the nameservers, and I’m not sure why your registrar is not allowing you to change the nameservers on your own domain.
Perhaps it needs a zone record. What is the domain name?

Hello macmanx,
thanks for your answer. I also found the option with the zone record and as i added my domain it told me to contact the support. The domainname is hamburgheartbreak.com and my registrar is Hosteurope.
I would move to Hosteurope if possible, but as far as i know they don’t offer this option at the moment.
I check my registrar again and see if they know more.
Thanks a lot for your help !

Hello macmanx and raincoaster,
it seems it really is not possible with this registrar to make these easy changes. But they said they are going to do for me now. I will see what happens.

Just in case they need a zone record, which shouldn’t be necessary for a .com domain, I have added it.
If they still could not make the change, please ask them to try again now.

Hello macmanx,
thank you very much for your help. So far i didn’t hear anything from them, but i think it could work now. Still have to wait a bit. But if not, i tell them to try again. Thank you again and i will keep you posted !

Hello macmanx,
okay, now they fixed it and said that it was due to the zone record. It should work after 24 hours.
Can you tell me how to change to zonerecord ? I have another domain named hamburgheartbreak.de. It seems i still need to use it, which i didn’t know before, so i would need to add the zonerecord there, too.
Thanks a lot, macmanx !Marcel
