Domain mapping without premium upgrade

I mapped my domain to my blog for £11 per year, I trying to help a friend do the same and can’t, can you help?

  • Hi there,

If your friend created their account in the past couple of weeks they won’t be able to, as we’ve made a recent change that domains can now only be added as part of a plan.

Please ask your friend to reply to this thread and I can take a look at their account.

Hi, friend is not young and I ma setting this up on her behalf. I know she does not need a premium package but would like to sue her own domain and pay for that. Her name is Brenda Deane (brendadeane.wordpress.com). I would be pleased if you could look at this.

  • Hi there,

Does she want to register a new domain, or does she already have a domain she only wants to map to the WordPress.com site?

Hi, she has a domain, http://www.brendadeane.com, registered with GoDaddy and I have already remapped the address on their site think could do what I did with mine. Hope that helps.

  • I’ve sent an email to the address associated with your account. Please let me know if you did not receive it.

Hi, thank you for the email.

I have just got in from work. I have managed to secure Miss Deane’s domain name on my WordPress site, it might not be live for a short while but I have completed the mapping on GoDaddy. If you could transfer this to her site I would be very grateful and thank you for all your help.

Hello, I am having a similar issue. I registered my domain and bought a hosting plan elsewhere at a friend’s suggestion. I’d like to create my blog using Workpress and have it point to my domain at the other hosting company, but your site says I can only do this if I upgrade to Premium for $99/year. Am I understanding this correctly? I’m new to blogging…

  • @thehrquest

That is correct. You can only connect a custom domain to your site if you have the Premium or Business plan. It works this way whether you bought your domain somewhere else, or whether you want to buy it here.

Accounts that already own a domain can buy additional domains, but new accounts cannot buy or map a domain independent of a plan.
