Domain masking from godaddy and now email won’t forward
-
When I decided to go with WP, I domain masked my existing domain name purchased through godaddy.
I had already set up my (email visible only to moderators and staff) to be forwarded to my primary gmail account.since building my WP blog/site, my (email visible only to moderators and staff) is not being forwarded to my gmail.
The tests emails friends have sent do not receive an error message, so i guess the email “went” somewhere.
when i attempt a test email from my gmail account, it comes right back to me however.
any suggestions?
many, many thanks.
Henry

I am guessing that you set up the email forwarding from godaddy and it worked before pointing the DNS servers to wordpress. Once you use WordPress’s DNS servers you must set up the email there. There are two ways to do that:
1) Set up email with google apps. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/ . You can then forward the google apps mail to your main email address (this is what I do).
2) Set the DNS records to pointy to the godaddy email system, which means that the forwarding you previously set up will work. Someone posted about this a while ago. Evidently there are instructions on godaddy about how to do this, it involves setting MX records and CNAME records for the SMTP and POP server and webmail.
I would go with option 1 because of the clear instructions and (if necessary) support here from people who have already done it. Note that whichever option you use it may take up to 72 hours for the DNS changes to reach the whole of the internet, so you could still lose emails for that period.
