Domain migration & transfer problems

I am web developer for crestonebliss.com. Ava has given me her WP logins so I can migrate the site to another host, InMotion Hosting, which I have done successfully, except it doesn’t load on all common browsers.

I now want to transfer the domain to an independent registrar, but not until I get the browser problems fixed.

Started domain name transfer process for crestonebliss.com @ WordPress site. I started before I realized that the the authentication codes would be sent to Ava’s address on file, (email visible only to moderators and staff). Then I changed it to (email visible only to moderators and staff) and pressed the Resend button on the Transfer request. This should get me a Confirm email at (email visible only to moderators and staff). Still waiting after several hours.

    Help!

Then I stumbled onto this mismatch and screw up:
The migrated site, formerly hosted on WordPress is still listed as crestonebliss.com, but doesn’t work on all common browsers.

Below that on the Settings page is a second domain, not migrated, (email visible only to moderators and staff).

    When I go to:
    http://blissvacationrentals.wordpress.com
I get my new InMotion hosted crestonebliss.com, which replaces the above address in the location field with crestonebliss.com, and loads properly! If I put crestonebliss.com in the location field I still get the Default Page with my IP address displayed instead of the site index page. Looks like some DNS mapping problem, not at my end as earlier versions of the browsers at fault work fine with the real address.

    Anyone got a clue?

    Thanks,
    Ted King
(email visible only to moderators and staff) – should come to this new address, but I haven’t gotten the Confirm email yet.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I see email addresses got redacted in my immediately previous post. I changed the email setting about 2 ½ hours ago and still haven’t gotten the promised Confirm email, and it’s not in my spam folder. How to I report this?

Just discovered the modlook tag, but not how to add it to my immediately 2 previous posts or this one without starting a new topic, which I will do if I can’t get a response any other way.

  • Hi there,

The transfer code is sent to the email specified in the domain contact information, not to the email address for the WordPress.com account. Additionally, both emails are still the original ones with which this account was created, so it doesn’t look like you confirmed the address change for the account email.

If you want to change the email address for the account you need to do so from the Account Settings page:
    https://wordpress.com/me/account/

This will send a notification to the current email, as well as a confirmation link to the new email that you need to click to complete the email address change.

Once you have done that, please post here and we can also update the domain contact email address to the correct one. Once that is done we can help you verify the new address, and then request the domain transfer code.

We’re not able to help with the browser issues on the self-hosted site, as that site is not on our servers and we have no access to or control over it.

I did make the change on the Account Settings page, as indicated in my posts, and more than once. The page now says “There is a pending change of your email to (email visible only to moderators and staff). Please check your inbox for a confirmation link.” But I did not receive the confirmation link email at the new address.

  • As I said above, the email address change is not complete until you confirm it.

If you did not receive the confirmation link, please check if it wasn’t filtered to the Social or Updates tab of Gmail’s inbox. You should also be able to resend the confirmation link from the Account Settings page.
