domain name

I am trying to start another blog on the free plan with a domain name bairncrofthomestead.com. Everything before checkout read that my domain name would be ‘bairncrofthomestead.com’ After I paid the $26 for the domain it asked me what plan I wanted and I clicked the free one to get started. When it set it up for me my domain read ‘bairncrofthomesteaddotcom.wordpress.com’ I am not sure what I did wrong. But I absolutely do not want my domain name to be that. I can’t even tell if that payment went through for the original domain I wanted, because what I want is ‘bairncrofthomestead.com’ How do I fix this? Do I reorder another domain? I would like the money I spent to be refunded if I am not able to us bairncrofthomestead.com. Thank you.

You do not understand how domain mapping works. You have to have an underlying .wordpress.COM blog URL like http://bairncrofthomestead.wordpress.com/ to map from to the domain URL bairncrofthomestead.com.
All wordpress.com hosted blogs are on wordpress.com subdomains like this: *http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com
If you wish to you can purchase your own custom domain and map to it, or map to an existing domain URL that you already own from the underlying .wordpress.com subdomain URL.

In order to map to a domain URL one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.All that changes when you are domain mapping is the URL and nothing else. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/ The content stays exactly where it is. What domain mapping does its create a seamless transfer between the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs to the new domain URLs no matter where they are on the internet. Visitors who click the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs will be seamlessly redirected to the exact same content under the new domain URLs.
