Domain Name

We had our daughter register our domain with her WordPress account. It expired , but was still available on her account to renew. We decided it best to make our own account and transfer the domain. We were able to transfer the blog.wordpress but our daughter thought the only way to transfer the .com domain was to Unregister it and have us then add to our account. So she did that and it’s not showing available. It says taken. It’s not a popular name and has only been an hour so unlikely its swooped up. Have been checking through WordPress and otherwise every 15 min to be sure. No luck. How do we get this done? Saw on forum it may not get released by WordPress for a year. Is this correct ? We just want to switch from one WordPress to another.. Help please! Cannot find customer service phone #

Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and the only exceptions are made are for URLs that were deleted 2 or more years ago. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.
