Domain Name

  Hi there,

  I’m looking to set up my own website and would like to use kristenoshiro.com as the domain name. When I type kristenoshiro.com into google, I get a default/advertising message from squarespace about how I could retrieve that particular domain name at any point in time – which gives me the impression that that particular domain name is not currently be used. However, it’s not currently available as an option with wordpress.

  I would prefer to pay the annual fee and have kristenoshiro.com as my domain name without the ‘wordpress’ mention in the url so was wondering whether you could suggest any advice? I’ve looked up the domain name via networksolutions.com per a recommendation from a blogpost I read and apparently a John Klos living in Santa Monica currently owns the right to that domain name but doesn’t seem to be doing anything productive with it. Your suggestions/next steps would be much appreciated :)

  Hi @kristenoshiro, if you see marketing when you view the domain in a browser, it means someone else owns the domain right now, even if they are trying to sell it. You could try getting in touch with them if this is the only name that will do.

  Or you’d be welcome to register a different domain. I recommend using the tool here to see what is available: https://wordpress.com/domains
