Hi there,
In order to use a domain you purchased elsewhere with your WordPress.com site, you’ll need to purchase a mapping upgrade subscription for your domain:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
It’s $13 and is used to map your domain hosted elsewhere to your WordPress.com site.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

You guys are awesome! Are there any benefits to buying a plan vs just mapping my domain?

Yo! Kids camp done and it was great. I was the only senior who could do cartwheeels, African drumming and be a lead singer. The pop music Concert was great too and then came singing camp. Now I’m preparing to modeling a fashion show. I won’t actually be back until after Labor Day. I just sneaked in to answer a few questions before I have to catch the ferry to modeling camp. Retirement rocks!
P.S. I may be taking up the Ukelele. -
@debbuckingham
The benefits are listed at http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/Individual domain mapping upgrades are not available. You must purchase a plan.

@debbuckingham The whole cost of domain/mapping charges has gotten a bit confusing, but the bottom line is that you can’t do either/both without a plan, which now comes in three flavors : Personal, Premium and Business. https://wordpress.com/plans/ All the benefits are listed there and scroll down a little on that page to see more about those plans.
@tt- My employer won’t let me go! Glad to hear you are enjoying retirement. (Someday!) :)

You actually may be able to just purchase the mapping subscription since you registered a looooong time ago. But, @Timethief is right, new accounts in particular only can purchase domains with plans only. As @JenT says, they are waaaaay too confusing. We’re working on it, though ;)
Check your account, you should be able to just purchase mapping.
Let me know if you have any trouble.
Thanks!

@JenT – you’re not the only one with that issue. =)
Apparently, we’re all eager to assist @debbuckingham!

Yea, I’ve had my blog for a looooong time. :-) So, if I (can) purchase just the mapping does it remove the add along the bottom? Or…should/do I purchase a plan? I just dont want to overspend just for the sake of overspending. If I have to, I have no problem purchasing a plan. :-)

You will need at least the personal plan in order to remove ads.

Welcome!
And the Personal plan, like all the plans, also rocks with direct support by email or live chat with Staff. Can’t beat that!
