my domain name http://www.broadscaleremodeling.com expired on the 20th, but when I check if the domain name is available it keeps saying unavailable, why?

Have you tried to renew the domain?

It sounds like your domain would be in its grace period and you should still be able to renew it.

For most TLDs registered through WordPress.com, an expired domain falls into a grace period for about 10 days to two weeks. During this short window, the domain can be renewed at the regular price. If you experience difficulty renewing your domain during this time, go to the Help section. There will be a link to contact Support for further assistance.

  • Hi there,

Your domain is not gone because it expired. It’s gone because you cancelled it on 5 January, according to your account’s logs.

Cancelled domains don’t become available immediately, but go through a process that lasts anything from a few days to a few months before they’re released again.

If you still want that domain, let me know and I can try to get it back from the registrar for you, but it’s possible that the domain is already beyond the point where we can recover it, in which case you’ll need to wait until whenever the registrar releases it.

Yes i would like the domain back, so that i can transfer it to a different host like hostgator.
    Is that possible?

  • I’ve emailed our registrar to try and get the domain back. Because you cancelled it more than two weeks ago AND it then expired since, we might not be able to recover it, but I’ll let you know.

You’ll most likely also need to renew it before you can transfer it, but we can look at that once it’s restored to your account.

  • Hello again.

I’ve had a reply from our registrar. It appears that your domain has already gone into redemption after you cancelled it. We can still get it back at this point, but we need to pay the registrar a $80 fee to restore the domain at this point.

If you agree to that fee I can continue the recovery process. Or otherwise you’ll need to wait until it is released from redemption, which could take a few weeks, and you run the risk of losing it should someone buy it before you are able to when it is released.

Please let me know how you’d like to proceed.
