Domain Name
-
hi
I currently have taken control of a website which has been up and running for over 10 years or so. I have developed a new one with wordpress.com but I am looking to remove old site from exisiting domain name and have the shiny new wordpress site with the existing domain.
how do I go about that? can I redirect it or can I just purchase the personal plan and set my wordpress site to my custom domain?
by the way I don’t have access to the host provider details!!
thanks

Hi –
It sounds like you want the domain to show your new WordPress.com site? If so, you will want to add the domain to the account via mapping.
See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Domain mapping is included in the personal plan. You can add it directly from wordpress.com/pricing/ and then head over to My Sites > Domains > Map it! to set up the mapping.

Thanks for response liz
So if I purchase the Personal Plan it will not cost me any extra to change existing domain via mapping to my new WordPress site no hidden costs???

What I mean is £30 for year for Personal Plan which will enable me to map WordPress.com site to my domain then get the host servers changed to ns1.WordPress.com, ns2.WordPress.com & ns3.WordPress.com and my new site should be available as example.co.uk?

The Personal Plan will need to be renewed each year.
When you add it to your account you will pay the full yearly price of £30 now and then not touch it again until next year.
The domain mapping is included. You will not need to pay any extra when you set it up. At checkout there will be a note that says it is included in your plan.
Editing the name servers is step #2 here and that is what tells the internet to show your WordPress.com site with the domain.

No problem. I’ll leave the thread open so you can post back here if you run in to any trouble.

Good Morning –
Existing links will continue to point to your site when you make the DNS changes.
