What domain mapping does is providing a seamless redirect to the very same content under the new domain URL when a person clicks the old URL .wordpress.com to the original content. It can take up to 72 hours for domain propagation to take place throughout the internet but it doesn’t usually take that long. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/How to upgrade

Thanks. Also I want to set up a site using the template maisha but I don’t want a blog. Is this possible with this template. I’m being instructed to start a blog when I try to use this template.

Forget about the previous question. What am I supposed to enter when it asks me for a domain name? I’m very confused. Do I tack on wordpress.com at the end of my domain name?
-
Hi zarinahyperbiotics –
Let’s start at the beginning. The first thing you’ll need to do is to add a free .wordpress.com site address to your account.
To do that click on My Sites in the upper left corner and you’ll follow those prompts. When the address availability options populate you will see the .wordpress.com added to the end – this means it is free.
Let me know once you have added a .wordpress.com site to the account and we can move on to any other questions that you have.
As for the theme, I would suggest getting started on a simpler theme and as you learn the tools and interface then move to a more complex theme.
You can use any theme in our showcase to build a blog or a website. A blog is a type of website. The difference is how they content is updated.
For example, blogs are updated by a single author (usually) with posts on a regular basis. Websites are filled with static or unchanging text on pages (not posts).
If you are looking to have a business style site please take a look at this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/tutorials/business-website-tutorial/

Hi,
Ok so I just added changeforwomen.org.wordpress.com and now I am being prompted to pay. Just to make sure, eventually I will be using and sharing just changeforwomen.org, correct?
Also, I am graphic designer so do you think the maisha template would be ok? I’ve used wordpress before, just never set up the actual site.
-
Correct. The domain mapping is included in the personal plan. There will not be an additional fee to add the mapping after you upgrade the plan.
Once you have mapped changeforwomen.org to the account that is all your visitors to the site are going to see in their browser. They aren’t going to see the .wordpress.com site address.
The .wordpress.com site address is what connects the mapped domain to your account, so we can’t get rid of that and you’ll see it in your account. Your visitors will not.
I hope that helps to clarify things.
Regarding the theme – Can you tell me more about the site. Are you using this to professional work? Would you be interested in a theme that has a portfolio feature?
See a list of those themes here: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/portfolio/
Lodestar is brand new and free :)

Hi, so the site is set up thanks to my colleague, (in a different account than this one). Now my issue is that I do not see the maisha template when I go to customize my site. I purchased it for $89 but when I go to customize, even though I’m accessing the customize tool through what appears to be the template, I am not seeing maisha. I’m just seeing a generic image with a site name. This is now an urgent need. Can you help?
-
Hi –
The Maisha theme was purchased under the hyperchangewomen user account. https://changeforwomen.org/ is currently using the Maisha theme.
The theme will need to be setup and customized. Here are the step-by-step instructions to help you: https://wordpress.com/themes/maisha/setup
-
We do not encourage folks to share accounts. Your password needs to be a secret that only you have access to. This is the only way to have a secure account.
-
I think I’m down a rabbit hole. I get the maisha set up and it makes sense but getting from there to the customization, is not connecting for me.
-
Also, this is not a blog. It’s just a landing page and I’m not sure if that is complicating things or not.
-
You should be able to click on My Sites > changeforwomen.org > Customize from the left hand menu. It looks like this: https://cloudup.com/cW6M2PlbYjm
Here’s a direct link to take you there: https://wordpress.com/customize/changeforwomen.org
A blog is a type of website. The difference is in how they are structured (posts vs pages) but that would not be having an effect on what you are working on now. Each of our themes can support either a blog or a website.
-
-
You can switch the site’s theme any time.
There are 2 ways.
First, from the theme setup instructions at wordpress.com/themes/ Or by clicking on My Sites > Themes.
If you decide that Maisha is not going to work for your project we can issue a refund up to 30 days after the purchase date.
-
Thank you. I just don’t see how to edit maisha. Sorry. All I see is the image and bit of text I added but nothing resembles that template and I’m just at a loss. I tried switching templates, but nothing is looking like any of the templates. What I want is the layout of the templates/themes and that’s what I’m not seeing.
-
You will need to customize and setup any theme that you use. You’ll add your own media, pages, menu, text, etc…
Can you share a screen shot of what you are when trying to work on Maisha?
Take a look at the setup instructions, let me know specifically what you are needing help with. https://wordpress.com/themes/maisha/
-
I get that I need to customize and setup but I don’t see anything on my screen that remotely resembles maisha. I thought I would start with maisha the way it looked when I chose it, and customize my way through the theme. But I’m just starting from scratch. And I don’t know any coding so I have no way of styling any of the text beyond the default styles that are there.
Is there any way I can speak to someone on the phone? Or do a screenshare? This project is incredibly urgent and I must not be communicating well because this forum is not helpful.
