domain name
-
I am just trying to set up a blog and am wondering about which domain name to choose. If I choose one on an upgrade plan, i.e, .net or .org, and then no longer pay for the plan is my blog still available on the internet to view or does it get cancelled and can no longer be accessed? Thanks for any advice.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good morning
If you set up a domain and pay for the name it is yours for as long as you pay for it. If you choose to not pay for the service, the service (domain name) will become available for anyone to buy.Domain names are like post office boxes. If you quit paying for it, your mail will no longer be delivered, because there is no forwarding address. Someone else who pays for it will get their mail delivered there.
The information will still be there, but no one but you will be able to access it.
Hope that explains it. For more information you might read:

Hi there,
I’m afraid @dave2swords’s answer is not completely accurate. Specifically:
The information will still be there, but no one but you will be able to access it.
All sites on WordPress.com come with a free domain, like http://graciechicksblog.wordpress.com/, and that’s the address where your content lives. If you buy a custom domain, the domain is laid over the free address, like putting a new cover on a book, so people will only see the domain.
If you cancel or let the domain expire, the cover is taken off and your site goes back to using the free address. Links using the custom domain won’t work any more, but anyone will still be able to view your content at the free address.

Yes, that is correct. Folks will still be able to view it with the ??.wordpress.com address. Sorry for the confusion.
