  Yes, you can set a custom domain as the primary address of your WordPress.com site by adding it as a Domain Connection. Domain Connection is included with all WordPress.com plans. Your site must be on a paid WordPress.com plan so that a custom domain can be set as primary.

  You’ll get a free domain credit for the first year if you upgrade to a yearly plan. Using the free domain credit, you can transfer your domain registration to us. We’ll renew it for a year after the transfer is completed.

  However, if you don’t want to transfer the domain yet, Domain Connection still lets you use your domain without transferring it to us.
