Domain name

    Hi, I associated the domain name groundedvisions.net to my WordPress blog on February 2016. I purchased the domain name through WordPress. I forgot to renew my domain, and now I don’t know how to get it back. Can you please help? Thank you.

    Hello @groundedvisions,
    When a domain expires it falls into a grace period for about 10 days to 2 weeks, during this period the domain can be renewed at the regular price.

    After this, the domain falls under the redemption period(length can vary). You can also renew your domain during this period, but you will charged an extra $80.00 redemption fee along with the regular renewal cost.

    NOTE:

    During the redemption phase, domains can be included in expired-domain auctions, where another party can bid on your domain name. If the domain is claimed by someone else in an auction, you will not be able to renew. If you made a payment in attempt to reclaim the domain out of redemption and were unsuccessful, you will get a refund.

    Hello again @groundedvisions,
    It looks like the domain groundedvisions.net is mapped to a WordPress.COM site since it is using the following name servers:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com

    And also it is registered via WILD WEST DOMAINS and not WordPress.COM.

    When i go to “groundedvisions.net”, i get this warning message:

    Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

    So please make sure that you have upgraded/renewed(if your plan has expired) to a paid WordPress.COM plan to be able to use this mapped domain.

    After upgrading/renewing go to your domains page and then follow the instructions given here to map the domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    NOTE: You must be the admin of the account to be able to map the domain. Also, you must be the owner of groundedvisions.net registered via WILD WEST DOMAINS to be able to use that domain on your WordPress.COM site.

    I just found out that WILD WEST DOMAINS is WordPress.COM’s registrar.
    So it seems like you have indeed bought that domain from WordPress.

    Howdy –

    WordPress.com is a reseller of Wild West Domains – not every domain with a registrar of Wild West Domains is through us. Staff can confirm this detail though.

    groundedvisions.net is registered through us.

    I’ve sent an email your way with more details. For now, the necessary subscriptions have been added back to your account for the domain to work properly.
