Hi, I am an absolute beginner and when I first tried to set up a page, wordpress suggested the domain name, which I accepted. Is it possible to change it, to make it simpler, from attractideasfromtheyoung.wordpress.com to attractyoung.wordpress.com?

You can change your WordPress.com blog address on this page: https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs
Hover your mouse over the site’s address you wish to change. You should see a new button called “Change blog address” appear. Follow the on-screen instructions to change your site address to a new one.
Note that when you do this, the old site address will be lost and not available for use again.
If you do not want to do this, you can always create a new WordPress.com blog here https://wordpress.com/start A single WordPress.com account can have as many WordPress.com sites as you want.

Why I you referring to my site as a ‘blog’? What I wantd to create was a static page :-( What have I done wrong? Will this anyhow affect my website visitors?

Well, blog is more of a publishing site where the site owner publishers content every now and then. As for a site though, the motive is to host content that does that show changes often.
I had a look at your WordPress.com site/blog and it looks more like a blog.

In addition, this article https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ outlines how you can set a page as the homepage for your site/blog.
On a general note, you need not worry about how volunteers like me call site/blog. We can it blog/site based on our preference and you can safely ignore it. :)

On the home page there are three themes in the bottom of the page. I like this feature a lot! I only would like to chenge the excerpt text below the photos. No it takes directly the text from the single pages, but, in my case, it seems weird. Is it possible to customise this text?

It looks like you are using the portfolio feature available on WordPress.com.
In the portfolio editor, you should see a section called “More options” on the right. Clicking on it should show “Excerpt”. I assume text entered on this section will show up just below the image on the homepage.
I am also tagging the post with “modlook” for the WordPress.com staff’s attention.

Hi, I am not sure what you mean with the portfolio editor. And yes, if this was a blog such an excerpt would make sense :-)
However, in the worst of cases I will delete this feature.
One last question: I would like people to apply to our event. I created a kind of ‘home-made’ apply ‘button’. Is there a kind of ‘plug-in’ that I could use to create a fancy apply button?

For the registration process, you could probably use your contact form. You can open the contact form on your dashboard (https://wordpress.com/pages)
Click on “Contacts” shown there and edit the form as you deem fit. You can learn all customization parts of the contact form here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/forms/contact-form/

Hi, I would like to customise the text below the three themes on my home page (in the bottom of the page). I like this feature a lot!. It seems that it takes directly the text from the single pages, but, in my case, it seems weird, as the three pages are not blog pages. Is it possible to customise this text?
