  I currently have a website through wix. I want to build a new site using the same domain name but I don’t want to replace it yet until my wordpress site is ready. Can I build the site using a different domain name and replace it later when I am ready to switch websites

  Yes, you can do this.

  Go ahead and build your free site with WordPres.com. Then, once the site is all ready to go, connect the domain.

  Here are some tips to help you get started:

  Some folks chose to keep that new site private from the internet until it’s ready to launch. If that’s of interest just check out this page with the setting change you’ll need to make: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  Once the site is ready, you’ll connect the domain. There’s 2 options to do that.

  1. Map it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
  2. Transfer it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
