  I don’t want to transfer the domain name until the new website is ready. Do I have to do it now when I sign up?

  You can easily create a free site ending in .wordpress.com or similar: https://wordpress.com/start/domains and then when you’re ready you can upgrade to a paid plan and transfer or map a domain you already own to that wordpress.com site.

  Thank you for your response. I would like all of the themes and plug ins that are available on the upgrade to build the site first, or am I not understanding something?
