    not sure if I should transfer my domain name or map it

    This is up to you.
    If you transfer everything will be managed by wordpress.com, in one place, it can be more comfortable, it requires a paid plan.

    If you map it, you will have to take care of your domian on your own, at another registrar, but here you will need a paid plan as well.
