  I want to change my domain name so I don’t have ‘..wordpress.com’. So can I buy the domain name elsewhere and still have my content or what happens to my content if I change the domain name?

  Your content and media will still be there. Registering a custom domain hides the free address rather than creating a brand new site, so you won’t need to move any content :)
