  i have domain name registered with another registrar, but when i try to map it with the wordpress DNS i am asked to pay for a premium plan. Can i only map my DNS after i upgrade to a premium plan from my existing free plan?

  Hi there,

  This is correct, using custom domains with WordPress.com is only available for upgraded plans. Here’s some more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#getting-started-with-domain-mapping

  Once you upgrade you should be able to map your DNS using the following instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#steps-for-mapping-a-domain

  Actually, you can use any paid plan. Start by choosing the plan you wish to use and then select the domain mapping option.
