I cancelled our domain, but we are not able to link it to another host website because wordpress is holding it. I am really disappointed that my domain name was taken and not being given back as I have a business running on that domain.

Hey there,
You canceled the domain within 5 days of registering it, so it should be available again soon. Once a domain name is deleted by the registry at this stage, it is immediately available for registration by any registrant through any Registrar, and that happens shortly after the 5 day grace period.
We can immediately restore the domain for you within that 5 day period, but after that we no longer have control over it. So, depending on where you want to register the domain (with us or elsewhere), you should decide ASAP on how you want it re-registered. You can always point the domain over to your host from WordPress.com until 60 days of registration hits (where you can transfer the domain anywhere you please). That will at least guarantee you will get it back without any potential complications. Let me know.

I would like wordpress to release the domain: brdge.ca as I am planning on getting the plan with another registrar. It has been well over a week and it is still under the hold of wordpress and my year of hard work is going to be ruined and only reason I left wordpress is because of the lack of customization to the website without a higher plan.

In that case, as staff-doublebassd mentioned, you’ll want to wait until the domain is removed from the registry. Its status is pending cancel so it should not be long until it’s released, we can’t, however, speed it up for you.
An alternative would be restoring the domain, mapping it to another site and transferring after the 60-day lock.

do you know how long I have to wait? As I have my business partners and my own years of hard work linked to that domain.

No I would like to use it on a new registrar as it is much cheaper and I dont need to actually make my website on wordpress.

We have no control over that process and that’s why we cannot tell you exactly when the domain will be released. It usually takes a week.
