  I don’t get it. I was thinking of using this service; but do I have to have mydomainname.wordpress.com as my name? I don’t want your name in my advertised website address-DEAL BREAKER

  These days you don’t have to. Choose “blog” when creating a free site and you’ll get an option of a .blog subdomain. There are a choice of 28 of them: https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2018/11/28/announcing-free-dotblog-subdomains/

  What?? I don’t want a blog OR the free website. When customers want to go to my web page, can they just get there by entering mywebsite.com or does it HAVE TO BE mywebsite.WORDPRESS.com??????

  To create a domain such as mywebsite.com or transfer an existing mywebsite.com domain to https://yotoolbox.wordpress.com/ requires the purchase of a WordPress.com Personal plan or higher.

  You will need this free address first to create a site. After that, you will be able to map, transfer or register a custom domain for your site and the free subdomain will not be visible to your visitors.
