Domain Name

I purchased a domain name though GoDaddy as the one I wanted was not available when I search for it on Word Press. Now that I have it, I am still directed to a page where it is asking me to pay. It was my understanding that I can build my web page for free? Please can someone clarify?

The wordpress software is free. One option is to pay GoDaddy to host a site with your new domain and install the free wordpress software there.
Your other option is to build a site here at WordPress.com which is another place like GoDaddy where sites can be hosted. With a paid plan you can map your new domain to that WordPress.com site.
The only way to do everything for free here is to not use your new domain at all. Then you could create a free site with a .wordpress.com or .home.blog subdomain. -
Thank you for your reply. I tried the free domain name they suggested and it worked but turns out to install any plugin’s I have to use a paid for site.
