  I would like to use the domain name Modeco.co.nz but WordPress will not support NZ?
  Does this mean I have to source my domain name elsewhere and then transfer it? or will i have to map it?

  It appears that you can’t transfer in or register .nz domains at WordPress.com. If you need to use that domain with a WordPress.com site then mapping it (and buying it elsewhere if you haven’t already) is the solution: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
