    I have a current domain name. I think the host is Go Daddy (do they host domain names?). Should I transfer my domain name to WordPress? Is that apples to apples?

    Basically, if you map your domain, you’ll continue renewing its registration with your current provider.

    If you transfer, you’ll pay for registration renewals here. Most domains star at $18/year.

    Transferring is nice if you want all of your payments related to your site and domain in one place. And you get the first year free.

    Mapping is nice if you have your domain registered for a long time elsewhere, if transfer isn’t available for your domain, if you’re using a subdomain, or if you’ve determined you’ll save by keeping it where it is. Just be sure to keep your domain renewed through its existing registrar.
