  Can i choose a free wordpress domain now, create my site, and transfer my existing domain (currently purchased/managed by google) later? I just want to make sure I like the website before I transfer or map my existing domain.

  Yes. Many people do the same thing. Start with a free address and upgrade when they’re ready to add their custom domain.
