  I was looking for a domain name and all variations of it were taken according to the machine but when I searched for the website it didn’t exist. Does this mean it is still possible to claim that domain name?

  It does not sound like it. Try not searching for it but instead going to that page, if it’s a .wordpress.com address. Addresses that are reserved or deleted are not available.

  If it is a custom domain, look it up in a whois service. Not all domains that are registered are in use on an active site or searchable in a search engine. If someone else owns the domain you want, WordPress.com cannot sell it to you, but the owner can.
