  I already have a domain name. Why is there a checkout charge to use with WordPress?

  Hi @bekkapack, that’s the cost for the hosting plan. Paid plans help cover our costs for infrastructure and staffing so we can provide support.

  We also have free plans that will give you a .wordpress.com subdomain (or one of our other free subdomains) and show ads, as the advertising helps offset our costs in that case.
