  What happens to my domain name after one year?

  If you have a WordPress.com website with an upgrade plan, for the first year the custom domain name you register is included. From the second year on, you’ll pay for your plan and your domain renewal separately.

  If you let your custom domain name expire and don’t wish to renew, you’ll need to set your .wordpress.com address as primary address so people can continue to access your site. Otherwise they might encounter an expired domain notice.
