Domain Name

I guess I messed up?! I bought my domain name (restorativeSource.com) at goDaddy yesterday for 2 years. When I went through the steps to remove wordpress from the end I got a message at goDaddy that I can’t transfer for 60 days? Have you heard this before? I am in the begging stages of blogging but have some content and want to advertise this site as a legit site. what should I do? is there anything I can do here to help or change things (without using a different domain name?)

  • This isn’t a problem at all. While you could have gotten the domain free for one year with a paid WordPress.com plan, it’s easy to connect a domain that’s owned at another registrar. In this case, you’ll keep the domain at GoDaddy and map to WordPress.com instead of transferring. Mapping will be no different of an experience when browsing to your site.

    Here’s how to map: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

All domains are subject to the 60 day transfer lock. It’s a rule by ICANN, the governing body for domains, and it’s not something GoDaddy or WordPress.com can waive.

  • Hi @restorativesource,

That is some good advice from @darciemg, and I wanted to add to that if I may. In addition to the domain mapping option included in all our plans, we also include a free domain transfer.

This means you can upgrade now and apply the mapping to connect your GoDaddy domain to your WordPress site, then after 60 days have passed you can transfer it to us at no extra charge, and consolidate your billing here.

As an added bonus, once the domain transfer is complete we will add a year to the expiry date free of charge, so it will at least save you the cost of renewing your domain for an extra year.

More info on our plans here, we’re happy to answer any questions you have: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
