domain name
-
Hi,
I purchased a domain from godaddy, I wanted to transfer it to W but it says as this is a newly registered domain it is not eligible yet and that I can transfer only at the end of July.So I went with mapping option. The domain that W provides me with has ‘wordpress’ including in it. My question is, if I go with the mapping option just now can I transfer the domain at the end of July? Also once I do that is the domain going to be the same that I bought from godaddy, i.e. without ‘wordpress’?
Many thanks
Farhad

You’ll be able to transfer the domain at any time after GoDaddy allows you to, even if it’s already mapped here.
Once you map the domain following https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/ you will need a paid plan to set it as your site’s primary address.
Since all paid plan include a free domain mapping, I recommend starting with that first via https://wordpress.com/plans

Hi there!
To map or transfer your domain, you will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan.
Please check the pricing. https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Once you have any of the upgraded plans, you can map your domain by following the process mentioned in this support document.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/In this case, your domain will be exactly the same as the one you registered with GoDaddy, but this is not possible without purchasing a plan.

Many thanks for the prompt help macmanx and ictonyx90. Just to make sure I understood, so if I upgrade to one of the paid plans, is my domain going to be the same as the one registered in godaddy right now, when it is still not transferred and is only mapped to it? In other words, is the solution simply upgrading, or does it need to be transferred as well so that I get the same domain?

First, upgrade to the paid plan, then follow https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After that, your site will appear as your custom domain. There’s no need to transfer it too.
