  I had an account and purchased two previous domain names. I need one of those domain names to be transferred over to another account or released so I can repurchase. A prompt response would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi there,

  What is the domain?

  You can transfer a domain you own to another site or account on WordPress.com at any time:

  However, if you cancel a domain, you stop owning it, and you can’t transfer something you don’t own. Additionally, Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. We cannot manually release a cancelled domain at your request, as that process is managed by the domain registry in accordance with ICANN regulations, so we have no direct control over it.

  I see you used to own two domains with us:

  You transferred the domain, thecurlwhisperer.com, away from us to GoDaddy.com on 16 June, so that domain is no longer in our control. You’ll need to contact support at GoDaddy directly for any help with that domain.

  Your other domain, thecurlstudiowc.com, you cancelled on 16 June. It is still possible for us to restore the domain to your account, but since you cancelled it, it has gone into redemption at the registry. Once a domain enters redemption, we have to pay the registry a $80 fee to get the domain back. Let me know if you agree to that fee, and I can start the recovery process for you.

  If you don’t want to pay that fee, your only other option is to wait for the domain to complete the redemption process and be released, at which point you’ll be able to re-register it as a new domain. Redemption for this domain should end around the 21st of July, and then it should be released a few days later. However, you should note there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to register it again at that point – once it’s released, anyone will be able to register it, and if someone manages to register the domain before you get to it, they will become the new owner of the domain instead.

  The only way to guarantee you don’t lose ownership of the domain is to pay the redemption fee to get it back.
