Domain Name

How can I change my domain name from http://www.example.wordpress.com to http://www.differentexample.com?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You will need to register the new domain and map it (point it) to your WordPress.com site.
If you wish to do so through WordPress.com, you can start in your Dashboard in the Store tab.

If I’m not really that far along is there any harm in just starting a new site and saving the $129 redirect cost?
Also somewhat related – if I have a http://www.example.com site can I embed code from say infogr.am and other sites? I know I can’t do this with my current site
-
The cost to register and map (most) domains is $18, or $26 with privacy (a few cost a bit more).
You can start a new blog at any time for free.
Purchasing the Premium upgrade will not allow you to embed code on a WordPress.com site that could not be done before. For infogr.am your best bet would be to save the graphics as a .png file and then embed those as images.
-
Well that’s a bummer! Is there anyway to have a blog hosted through wordpress in which you can embed code?
For example, the following link is to a post where I did pretty much exactly as you said with Infogr.am but I feel it would be presented much better if I could just have the graphic in the post. Any way this would be possible?
Data shows new MLB stadiums increase crowds more than championships

We do not allow users to embed their own code for security reasons. If you’d like us to consider adding infogr.am embeds, you’re welcome to post a request (with some details on why it would be helpful to you) in our ideas forum, https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas
In the meantime, I think the post you linked actually looks pretty good. I’m not really sure how embedding the graphics would change much for you there, particularly since with the theme you’re using, the content area is relatively narrow.
-
Thanks for the compliment. I was actually going to change themes to get a wider content area if I was able to embed the graphics I wanted. Ok, so essentially adding any external code is out.
Can you explain your answer to my original question a little more? So if I made a new domain name, how would I “point” my blog to this? Wouldn’t the links to my old posts still go to the old web addresses?
-
You can register a new domain through WordPress.com and point it to your site by purchasing the domain through your Store tab in your Dashboard. The work of pointing the domain to your site is handled behind the scenes so you don’t have to do much other than register the domain through our order form and then set it as your primary domain in your Domains tab.
We walk you through the whole process here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/#instructions-for-registering-a-new-domainIf you’d prefer to register the domain elsewhere, you would need a different upgrade (domain mapping) and would need to follow a few more steps, but that’s still pretty simple to do. Let me know if you prefer to do that.

Registered a new domain through the site. Still bummed about not being able to input code directly but thanks for the help!

You’re very welcome.
