I signed on and was blown away with final fee. I already have a domain name so didn’t need to pay for another one. Why can’t I keep elaineallcut.com. I am the only person with that name in the world and it is my name. I got confused with all the offers near the end.

It looks like you did sign-up with the blog address elaineallcut.wordpress.com and then mapped the domain elaineallcut.com.
The domain mapping is for scenarios where you have already purchased the domain elsewhere and want to use it with your WordPress.com account. Did you purchase elaineallcut.com at another registrar?
It looks like someone has currently setup a Wix site with that domain here:
If you own that domain and setup that site, you’ll need to change the name servers as described here:

If not, you won’t be able to use elaineallcut.com as someone already owns it. However, elaineallcut.co is available. Would that work instead?
