Domain Name
-
I just created a domain for my blog and want to edit the name of the domain if possible. Since I have an upgrade on my blog, the domain is supposed to be permanent. I would like to change the name from .com to .org if possible. I do not blog for money.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. With custom domains it is not that easy. If it has been fewer than 48 hours since you registered it you can cancel the domain and register a different one, but I think that’s the only way. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/#typos
The process for cancelling a domain is described here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/cancel-domain/

Well, my schedule has put me a minimum of 24 hours out already. Would you actually advise deleting it? What is your suggestion on the .com vs the .org?
-
My suggestion is leave it be. The distinction between the two .com and .org is not cut and dried.
-
You can see I happened to have my second blog opened when I responded. That one already has a .org domain, so no problem there. it is the http://pilgrimstranger.wordpress.com blog I wanted to change.

I think timethief may be right. I probably should leave it alone.
This seems to answer my question about revising the name, but I have one more question about using the domain. Should I ask on a different forum?

1. The link in my files says I have the option of setting up a new email address. How do I get to that after it is created? If I set a password and forget it, how can I recover that information.
2. I also have the option of mapping an other domain. What is the advantage of doing that?
3. Originally I thought having a domain meant I could create a Website to dock there. Am I right or have I misunderstood?
4. Are there other advantages to having a domain?

See here > email address http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-address/
You can update your email address in your Account Settings, or in your Personal Settings under Users → Personal Settings in your dashboard.

You are already domain mapping so I have no idea why you are asking this question. See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

A blog is a website. First, you register a blog and then you change the structure.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/ and http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/07/25/create-a-wordpress-website-step-by-step/
We frequently get people here who think they can design their own sites and themes. This is not possible here at WordPress.COM but it is possible if you hire a web host and set up a WordPress.ORG install.
The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
upload any third party themes,
create child themes,
create our own themes,
edit templates,
create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes that.
On one hand, none of the characteristic “blog” features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog, without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.

4. Are there other advantages to having a domain?

I hope you get paid well for all you do! I am copying these gold nuggets into a Word.doc and saving them for future study.
I also have to copy them there to enlarge the font to 150% so I can see the whole thing together. ;-)
Thanks so much for your kind help.

No I do not get paid. I am a Volunteer.I have volunteered here for over 8 years and I predate almost every Support Staff member even being on Staff. lol :D I also predate the support docs. Best wishes with your site.
