Domain name

  • I think you will just have to wait this one out. I realize that it is frustrating. But it is the hazard of registering and canceling. It is why we encourage people to NOT cancel their domain if they plan to use it again.

Yes I understand. Once it is available I am going to try to get it with a different registrar and assign to my shop. Any idea how long it usually takes?

  • I frequently see it taking between 90-120 days. But there is no guarantee.

Ok, so I mapped alibennett.com to alibennettflorida.wordpress.com, and have now transfer to a different blog not in wordpress. I would now like to change the host of my domain from wordpress (or wild west domains) to name cheap.

I went to name cheap and typed it in for transfer but said it was not available for transfer.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for being so helpful thus far! :)

    Hi!

The domain mapping upgrade isn’t the same as registering the domain. I went ahead and refunded your mapping purchase as this won’t work in the way you want it to.

Domain mapping requires you to already own the domain elsewhere. Since the domain is currently not available for registration, you will not be able to use the mapping upgrade.

You will need to wait until the domain becomes fully available again for registration. You can check this at the following URL:

    http://who.is/whois/alibennett.com

The top box shown here will be green:

    http://d.pr/i/1gFq2

That can take between 90-120 days as Josh indicated. At that time, you can register the domain directly with Namecheap.

If the domain isn’t available for registration how come I am able to use it for tumblr?

The domain is still holding on to WordPress.com name servers for some reason. Did you direct your domain to Tumblr before it was cancelled at WordPress.com? If so, the domain will continue to work for a short period of time (a limbo period). However, the domain will stop functioning soon.

I canceled the domain a while ago (did not receive the refund until today though), but was just able to redirect it to tumblr yesterday.

The reason this continued to work is because the domain name servers are still pointed to WordPress.com. However, since the domain is no longer registered with us, that could change at any moment.

If you would like, I can reach out to the domain registrar in an attempt to restore the domain back to your account. However, it looks like this domain has been cancelled and restored several times. So, before I reach out, I’d just like to confirm that you would like to have the domain 100%. Also, if necessary, I’d like to confirm you’re willing to pay the $80 redemption fee charged to us by the registrar.

If you’re 100% certain you want the domain, I can reach out to the registrar to re-register the domain. This is the only way that the domain will continue to work correctly for the long haul.

No, thank you. I will wait the 90-120 days.
