domain name

I’m in a tangle! I forgot that my old WordPress site was titled karensantelli.wordpress.com, and so I unwittingly just bought karensantelli.com from GoDaddy, with the hopes of registering it on WordPress.org for a new business site. When I tried to register the domain name with WordPress, it wouldn’t let me, saying the name/site already exists. I just paid good money for the domain name; how can I cancel my old WordPress site and register the new one of the same name? THANK YOU!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

karensantelli.com should have been, and should presently be, reserved for you. Cancellation of your old WP site should definitely NOT be required to register it. There must have been some minor technicality blocking the process. I’ll tag the topic for staff attention.

karensantelli.com should have been, and should presently be, reserved for you.
The only sites that are reserved by WordPress.COM for users are those sub-domains that exactly match the .wordpress.com URL.
Example:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/karensantelli
http://karensantelli.wordpress.com/It does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.COM sub-domain URL is when you are domain mapping. It does not have to match. There is no domain mapping upgrade for karensantelli.com. If you would like to use this domain you will first need to set up domain mapping.
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.
Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium ujpgrade bundle.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.
If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Hopefully, you have not purchased domain mapping while I am typing this but if you did then know that WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.
The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours. https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades
Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.
Provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrade, and you are within the allowed time frame for refunds, you can cancel and request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. You can also disable auto-renew there. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades
See here:
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades

as well as

Hi @karensantelli,
To recap, you currently only have one site on your WordPress.com account (karensantelli.wordpress.com). I’m not sure whether you’re trying to setup a new self-hosted site or a new site at WordPress.com. There are a few possible scenarios:
1. You can use the domain karensantelli.com with your current site karensantelli.wordpress.com. This would replace the default WordPress.com site URL with the custom domain name.
2. We can setup karensantelli.com as a completely separate WordPress.com site. You could then have two sites at WordPress.com (karensantelli.wordpress.com and the new site).
3. You could setup karensantelli.com as a self-hosted site with GoDaddy. That would be entirely separate from WordPress.com.
Could you let me know which direction you were trying to go? Happy to provide a bit more information once I know what you’re trying to accomplish!

@ timethief,

Example:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/karensantelli
http://karensantelli.wordpress.com/How is the example that you provide here a match, but https://karensantelli.wordpress.com/ and http://karensantelli.com/ not a match?

Example:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/karensantelli
http://karensantelli.wordpress.com/WordPress.com is not domain name registrar.
WordPress.com is the top level domain here.
All blogs hosted by WordPress.com are on .wordpress.com sub-domains. And, WordPress.com reserves the .wordpress.com sub-domain URL that exactly matches the .wordpress.com username account.
