Hi,
Your WordPress.com blog comes with a free address, like example.wordpress.com. You can get rid of the .wordpress.com part and use a custom domain name instead, like example.com.
Adding a domain is a paid upgrade:
- Registering a domain through WordPress.com starts at $18.00 per domain, per year (see below for a detailed price list)
- Domain owners are required to share their contact information. The $8.00 Private Registration upgrade will protect your identity and hide your contact information.
- Adding a domain you already own costs $13.00 per domain, per year.
- A custom domain is also included in both the Premium and Business Plans.

Thanks for your quick reply. I actually did apply for the premium plan, so shouldn’t I have already had the domain name I chose? I thought that is the way I understood it. I didn’t apply for the free one for this reason. I paid $99 for the premium plan. So shouldn’t I get my own domain name?

When you upgrade to premium, wordpress.com will give you 1 free credit to either register new domain or map existing domain. In this case, you’ll want to register a domain.
Go to the domain from your dashboard here:
https://wordpress.com/domains/add/thetruthodysseydotcom.wordpress.comEnter the desired domain name ‘thetruthodyssey.com’ and click add.
Proceed per instruction in this page:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/If you still had to pay for the domain, please reply here so I can tag this thread for staff attention.

So I did what you said and it is still coming up with the same domain name. Of course, it was taking me through the entire process and was asking for me to enter my credit card info again too…I already paid the $99. What do I do now?

@empire4fusenet – Hi! I’ve just sent you an email regarding this. Let’s continue our discussion there. Thanks! :)

Elte,
Just wanted to thank you for all your help. I’ve got everything worked out on the domain name. Could you possibly help me with a further questions. I’m obviously a newbie! I’m having trouble figuring out my sidebar. I’ve gone “menus’ on my sidebar, but don’t know how to put my posts in the various “menus’ listed on my sidebar. I’ve got the menus, and I’ve got a post…now how do I put the various “posts” in their appropriate “menus”. This is probably easy stuff, but again…I’m a newbie. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, I’m glad the domain was sorted out.
The theme ‘twenty fifteen’ you’re using have 1 sidebar, with the ‘menu’ and ‘widget’ on the same location, which is why you’re confused.
I’ve made a gif instruction to illustrate better. Here’s the link.

@empire4fusenet: Leo’s gif should have the explanation you’re looking for. You may want to look at these support pages as well:

I have to say…I am very impressed with the effort being made to help. Nonetheless…I’m still stumped! I know I’ll figure it all out eventually. What I imagined having on my blog was a main page which would display the latest posts, and a list of menus on the sidebar in which these posts would “take up residence” so to speak once they leave the main page. These “menus” comprise the various topics which are to be featured on the blog. Right now, I appear to have menus on the sidebar (which I put there via the “pages” option), but I am not sure how to move my one current post to one of them, nor how to do the same with future posts. My domain name is “thetruthodyssey.com” if a visual of where I am at in the process helps. Thanks so much for your assistance. I’m totally new to this obviously, but am determined to make it work. Again, thank you.

What I imagined having on my blog was a main page which would display the latest posts,
You then need to set the front page displays to ‘ your latest post’, see here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/You can categorize posts (the article you wrote) into several topics, like ‘music’, ‘politics’, etc and from the sidebar menu/widget, you can display them as category. So when the visitors click, they’ll see article list like the homepage, but only showing the relevant category.
To categorize post, see here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/Right now, I appear to have menus on the sidebar (which I put there via the “pages” option), but I am not sure how to move my one current post to one of them, nor how to do the same with future posts.
If you want the sidebar to automatically update when there is new post, you can use ‘recent post widget’, see here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/recent-posts-widget/ -
On top of that, you’d probably be interested to know the difference between post and page here https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

Thanks for the suggestion regarding categories, Leo! That’s very helpful. :)

Leo,
Thanks so much again for all your past help. I’ve got another question. I am trying to add a contact page and know that I need to add a plugin. However, I do not see the “Add plug-in” option in my panel? What am I missing?
-
Hi again Dave,
Sorry for late reply. If you need a page where someone can fill the form to contact you, there is a way to do that.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Create a page.
You can put any information.
2. Use contact form. You don’t need plugin for this.
There is even a short video tutorial which show you how to do it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/In the end, you can modify the field according to your need and you’ll get something similar to what I’ve done to my contact page, which can be seen here http://savorsnap.com/contact-us/
Hope that helps :D

I have done this repeatedly yesterday and today and it still is not showing up on my site. I did all the steps on the tutorial which is what I did yesterday on my own. Please help.
-
In addition to needing to add a contact page, how do I sell ebooks? I uploaded my pdf file but now don’t know what to do next since I can’t use plugins. Thank you in advance for your help on these matters.
-
hellow, sorry for slow reply, been busy with works.
Here I upload the gif for you demonstrating the creation of contact form, I think it’s easier to follow

I believe you have to use other service if you want to sell ebook, since the link is not encrypted and if people know what the address is, they can download for free. WordPress.com business plan has ecommerce feature but that set you back for $299/year
