    What happens to my current domain name when I upgrade from Free to Starter and buy a custom domain name?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

    Your address ending with .wordpress.com remains in the background. Anyone with that address saved in a browser would be diverted to your new custom domain. The free address could be used in the future if you decided you no longer wanted a paid plan and custom domain.
