    I need to know why I am going to be billed $96 for a web site I just paid for in September. I understood I had paid for a whole year.

    Hi there,

    Of what site are you speaking, please? The account you’re using to post here doesn’t own any sites or upgrades on WordPress.com.

    If you’re speaking about an early renewal email you received, that does not say you’re going to be billed, and is not for an automatic renewal.

    We are changing our pricing model on WordPress.com, and as of next week domains will no longer renew with a plan. When you buy a new plan you can register one domain for free with the plan, but when time comes for renewal the following year, the domain will renew separately from the plan at an additional cost.

    The email you received explains that if you manually renew your plan early before 19 December, your domain will still be renewed for free as part of the plan one more time. So it’s a way to still get one more domain renewal for free before our new policy goes into effect.

    You are under no obligation to renew now if you don’t want to make use of this offer.
