Domain Name and Hosting
-
I purchased a domain name through GoDaddy. How do I connect it to my WP blog? Once the blog is built, what do I need to do to get it online for people to view/visit?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible.
Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.
Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Thanks.
Once the site is built and the domain name is mapped to it, how do I get it online for people to view/visit? Do I need to hire someone like GoDaddy to do this? Does WP do it?
-
It’s already online right now and all that will chnage once the domain name propagation takes place throughout the internet is the URL.

When I typed in bitchinbeachbooks.wordpress.com it took me to the site — and it was in a mode where people could access all my account information!! This is really scary.

I cannot account information. I can see this blog http://bitchinbeachbooks.wordpress.com/

Hello. It looks like you’ve deleted your blog bitchinbeachbooks.wordpress.com. Is this what you intended to do?
I see you have http://beachbooklover.wordpress.com/ active now and you’ve purchased a Domain Mapping upgrade there. If you’d like that domain to appear when users visit your site, you should make sure its selected as your primary domain:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domains-settings/#changing-your-primary-domain
Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Note: if you are logged in and you visit a site – yes you will have the ability to edit the blog – that is different than a traditional html site where you need to ftp in to change a site – don’t believe me?? Log out and your ability to edit will vanish

As an addition to auxclass’s comment, this only happens on your own sites. So no one else will see these administrative links or have the ability to change your site. :)
