domain name and page address issues
-
When first set up the site bought the domain name the-stress-academy.com from 123Reg who also I think host the site. Noticed that all the web pages have the same address. Bought http://www.stress-academy.com from WordPress which works really well but noticed when searching the name The Stress Academy on Google that it sent me to the-stress-academy.com website where the odd problem of web page names still exists. You can probably tell that I am not a technical person from al of this so any help or suggestions really welcomed but imagine you are writing for a 5 year old! Thanks x
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. I can’t help you regarding the Google issue, as it’s on their end.
However, I can tell you this: stress-academy.com and the-stress-academy.com are not set up the same way, which is why they don’t behave the same way.
To solve this, in theory, you’d have to set up the-stress-academy.com the same way as stress-academy.com: through the domain mapping option.
However, I am not certain if you can map two domain names (two dot coms) to the same WordPress.com blog, so I marked this post so that staff takes a look.

You can map as many domain names as you’d like to one blog. They’ll all redirect to the domain that you set as your primary.

Thanks for the replies. Apologies for being a dimwit but I am not sure what to do next…I paid I think about $17 for I think domain mapping already or I had thought that I had done this but maybe I have done something quite different. I am not sure even if I own the http://www.stress-academy.com name now either. Can anyone tell me how I find out a)whether I do own the domain name and it was that that I paid for and/or b) how to make sure that anyone directed to the-stress-academy.com will arrive as http://www.stress-academy.com?
Thanks -
Right now, you have purchased and own stress-academy.com, and it is properly mapped.
I’m not sure on the status of the-stress-academy.com. I’m assuming that you own it, but it’s not through us. Right now, you have it masking to stress-academy.com, which is going to cause problems in the long run. I recommend forwarding without masking, or (for the best experience) map it to the same blog following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

Thanks so much for the advice. On searching for the server name for 123-reg came across the opportunity to forward the old address to the new address so have done this and it seems to work…? Do not appear to have the same issues with the navigation bar.

Forwarding will work for the most part, but you might run into a few oddities, like inability to log in directly via the domain and VideoPress videos not playing.
If you’re fine with that and any other odd glitches that you run into, you have nothing to worry about.
