Domain name availability
-
I recently cancelled my subscription with WordPress for another site (template & UI reasons), but the domain I was refunded for remains unavailable for use on the other site. Is there something else I must do to free up the domain name.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
If you need help retrieving old domain you can try contacting the staff by adding the “modlook” tag to this thread. I have gone ahead and did it for you. You have to wait for someone from staff to become available so that they can assist you.

Hi there,
Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future. Only cancel a domain if you’re completely sure you no longer want it at all.
In this case your domain should be available again by the weekend. There is no way to manually release the domain before that, but I can still restore it to your WordPress.com account until it is released.

No problem.
Be aware that there’s always a slight risk someone else might get the domain before you once it’s released, but it’s very unlikely with a brand new domain. Starting tomorrow I recommend you try checking a few times each day whether it’s available again.
