Domain Name Cancellation
-
So I thought I could just cancel my domain that was about to expire and re-register it with Squarespace. But apparently it’s not that easy! I need to contact wordpress directly somehow to ask them if I can rebuy my domain with them because it still says it is taken because it may be help by wordpress in a grace period. Help!

Thank you Jennifer! All I want to do is renew it now. I didn’t realize I shouldn’t cancel, I would gladly just renew now. I read your link and hopefully they will let me back in on the grace period since I did it just this morning.

I can try and reverse the cancellation. I will let you know if I am successful, it typically takes 12-48 hours.
If successful, you will need to re-purchase the yearly domain registration. Then you will be able to use the domain here on WordPress.com or point your domain to a new webhost using these instructions:

Hello, How do I go about cancelling the domain name with you that I have just payed for. It says that I have 48 hours to do so -minus about 10! Thanks

I can help you with that. however, please be aware that if you cancel a domain, it will not become available to register at another registrar instantly. Like as not, you’ll end up in the same situation as the other user on this thread did.
If you want to cancel a domain to use it elsewhere, please consider using these instructions instead:
If you want to cancel a domain because you have changed your mind and simply do not want it any longer at all, let me know.
